I SO feel for you. watching my 13 y/o's deteriorating is worse than seeing myself or my wife get older. when they were young if they fell off the bed/furniture or into the pool it was funny, now it breaks my heart.

Iluv2hunt,
One of our daughters has 3 miniature dachshunds and she is constantly concerned about them injuring their backs. Seems it is very common because of the way they are built. Her vet usually gives her something to relieve the pain and hopes it will slow them down enough to heal the back strains. So far, so good with her puppies but they haven't been diagnosed with the disk problem as your pup has. Dogs surely become part of the family and our concern for them is almost the same as for a child. Hopefully your little dog can be made comfortable and be able to improve from the disk condition.
