Look man the tranfer case either works, or it doesn't. Do not fix what is not broken. I would just replace the tail shaft seal for a couple of bucks, and be done with it. Than just monitor it on a regular basis. I replaced my seal, and I still get a little drip so I check the fluid level on a regular basis, and it rarely needs any. My transfer case has had some chatter, and noise for the last 100,000 miles, and is still working fine with 304,000 miles on it, but it is a chevy. If you think you may need one sooner than later I would look online for used auto parts there are several companies that buy wrecks from the auto insurance companies than remove, and sell all the good parts. I know there are a couple of these places in north Tampa.

Yea 4wd works perfect. I think they were fos. They also told me they hardly ever see or don't even stock any 4wd titans cause there is no demand for them. Crazy not one on the lot I checked.

Sounds like they were feeding you a line of shart. A seal has nothing to do with the "guts" of the trnsfer case working or not
Go lock it in 4L, and if you don't hear any clanking like frying pans falling, then put a new seal on it and go on about life
I am glad I actually have a mechanic I can trust. he will not lie to me and won't sell me something I don't need just to rape us

He would have had to pull the transfer case apart to see if it was bad or not, then replace the seal anyway and refill it with fluid, right? :wacko

well i had the seal done. cost me 185 of money i didnt have. Its not leaking.. but they are saying that play in the bearing which is like 1/16th of an inch will wear the race and eventually break.. im just going to monitor it for leaks. and thats it. im praying.

It was either a couple of things.. one i was backing my big 5000 lb camper into the spot.. had to put it in 4wd to get the truck over a hump with out the wheels slipping.. and after that i used the 4wd all weekend on the sugar sand and no weird noises... so im guessing some sugarsand got in the seal and broke the seal..

well its not leaking but the front shaft does have about 1/16th of an inch of up and down play.. so yea the bearing does have a tiny bit of play.. my main driveshaft has no play at all.. hope all is well and it stays good.. lol
