Baked on moly finish like KG Gunkote will give nice looking durable finish to a rifle like that.
Couple hours on work on the wood, few hours of work on the metal surface and you can have a great looking rifle for cheap... as long as you don't count your labor in to the cost.

sounds like it needs a check by a smith or someone with good knowledge and a bore scope. may or may not be salvageable? one problem with most levers, you have to run the cleaning rod from the muzzle to breach, not the best way and you can wear/sctatch that critical area. a bore guide and good coated 1 piece cleaning rod will help a lot.
