This would be a great hunting gun, needs to be reblued or use it as is.
You can beat these old lever guns!!! Someone better jump on this one quick or it will be gone!
Those guns can't be reblued using the normal cold blueing process. When they are stripped and reblued, the finish ends up looking like Buccaneers Pewter color. I know cause I tried to do one myself and ruined the finish of the gun. Take a look at the Winchester 1894 tab in this website. http://gunblue.homestead.com/
I found this information AFTER I stripped the gun completely and tried to reblue it. Turned out horrible and I sold it at a gun show.
That guy will be lucky to get $275 in that condition. It looks like it was left out in the rain.
Most older guns do that and it's because of the quality of the metal which was used when they were built, not like todays junk. That's why cold blueing SUX on old Winchesters, Brownings, Rugers and Remingtons. The older guns, over 15 -20 years old need to be Hot Blued in a tank or they will come out purple with Cold Blueing. If you know where to get them "Hot Blued" in a tank it can be had for around $100-200.
If you need something Hot Blued we have a hook up in GA that will make the gun look better than most factory guns new.
This one our smith/bluer could pull off the bubba side scope base, strip the gun, fill the side mount drill holes, and reblue in the hot tank and you'd never know it had been drilled or stored in someones leaky old shed out back for the last three years.
If I didn't already have 4 levers I'd give $250 for it, add another $200 and it would be near new after the repair and reblue. Stock work and refinishing is the easy part.
ugly condition.....I would rather get a brand new one for 360 dollars from wally
yeah it looks rough, but the wood and steel in it are 100% better than those used today (as long as internal parts are OK). if you did a decent job of re-finishing the wood and a good bluing/repair ( remove that silly side mount) you would double your money or have a much better/classic firearm. see how much that WW gun is worth after it's gone thru time/treatment that 94 has. + it's a top eject thats so cool imo, if using open sights only. great project gun for after season/winter. there gonna be fewer and further between.
