I am going on a big duck hunt next weekend in MS. It's about a 10 hour drive, so I want to make sure I have EVERYTHING covered for the trip and have no excuses once we get there.
I normally use Rio or comparable (around 10$/box) steel shot for duck hunting. I've peppered MANY ducks this year and hardly any of them have died. I'm talking feathers flying everywhere, direct hits, and they flutter for a second and keep flying.
Back to the question: I bought a few boxes of Hevi-Metal shells for the trip. When I opened the box and started reading, it says "use only in guns designed for modern steel ammunition. Do not use in Damascus or twist steel barrels."
I have an old Remington 1100 automatic that was passed down to me. It's estimated that the gun is about 50-60 years old.
Does anyone know if these shells are safe to use in this shotgun.
Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry for the rookie question. Thanks!
Should be fine.
my benelli sbe comes with 2 sets of chokes, 1 for lead, and 1 for steel. your gun is fine. if you are gonna do a lot of duck hunting you might think about a couple of choke tubes specificly for ducks/steel.
Your 1100 is fine to shoot them in. Good luck and post some pics of your hunt.
Thanks guys! I'll post some pictures when i get back.
