No wood filler. Didn't want to have to stain it so dark. The pores are starting to fill in already. The initial wet sanding with the first heavy coat of finish filled a lot of them. Been working with wood for over 30 years, and if you finish in thin coats, and sand it down well between coats, the pores will fill in nicely. Bbl length is 21-3/4". Wish I had the original rear sites, but that's something I can keep looking for.
I refinished an old 16ga side by side double trigger job just to learn how to do it and used tung oil for the finish, alot of man hours involved, and a box for drying/hanging between coats so no dust or insects can get on it helps alot too, but I guess you allready know that. look forward to seeing some pics.
Can we get some photos??? I haven't even seen it yet and my house is less than 400 feet from yours???
he's probly still working on the 75 coats of hand rubbed finish
Just got back from the woods, and haven't had a chance to take any more pics. I have 3 coats of finish on it so far, and it's ready for the 4th. I just gotta make time.
