:army Just returned from the range with my new Ruger American Rifle....what an awesome rifle! After a couple of boxes of ammo; I seem to have it sighted in and my shoulder is feeling it too. Chose the .308Win to smack Florida whitetails and & pigs this season. Any suggestions on type of ammo all you rifle hunters perfer? I'm guessing that 150 grain will get the job done but not committed to any one brand of bullet yet. Welcome all suggestions from the experts......thanks. :saluting
I have read the rifle is supposed to be pretty nice, especially for the price. If you don't mind me asking, how much do you have in it? Does it come with a scope or did you add your own? Any additional info would be great!
Thanks
in my ammo selection i have used every special tipped boat tailed bullet in 30 cal to kill deer, and they work just fine. a few seasons back i left all ammo at the house by mistake and now i'm 400 hundred miles away from home. so off to mega low mart for ammo and they do not carry the brand i like so i pick up a box of 150 grain remington core lokt for 20 bucks. my rifle was very accrurate with a 150 grain bullet. ended up killing my best ever buck that trip with a off the shelf standard load. so spend some time on the bench to find out what the gun likes and stock up. no special bullet needed 150 or 165 or 180 are popular loads for the .308 and all have plenty of power. have fun
Welcome to the forum, Viking! Not a .308 shooter myself, but it's a good all-around caliber and usually easy to find ammo for it. I've used the Remington Core-lokt in .243 and .270 with good results.
