not knocking anybody at all, but must gun malfuntions from my experience has to due with the gun owner and not the firearm. poor maintenance can account for most malfunctions. My guns especially pistols and shotguns are taken down completely after shooting. the only exception to my rule is my hunting rifles. i leave the barrels fouled all season. as most of mine a stainless i don't clean them at all during deer season.

I grew up hunting deer with a shotgun, as you aren't allowed using a rifle where I'm from...but I had just got that shotgun used from University Gun in Tampa....it was definitely beat up before I got it....but it was properly cleaned and lubed....might just be "tired" parts....either way, I still don't like how loose the pump-action is...it rattles pretty awful.

i have found some folks don't like disassembling the 500 all the way. complete field strip because it can be a pain to put back together. after you do it a few times it is pretty easy.

I don't doubt that Mossbergs are reliable, didn't mean to imply that....just that the limited experience I have with them is negative...they have a good reputation for a reason. Everyone I know from IN hunted with a 870, 1100, or 11-87...only Mossy's we saw around were the bolt-actions that shot sabots....always figured there was a reason for it.
