I have been looking for a sight to fit on top of my 500. I figured this is probably the best place to ask the differences between the types. My 500 is a 20 inch barrel with extended magazine that has no choke ability. I have ordered a 28 inch barrel with choke ability from Mossberg direct that will fit the extended magazine. Right now with just the truglow sight I can cluster slugs around 8 inches at 30 yards.
Ok... Back to the questions.....
What is the benefit or negatives to using this
verses this type
Thanks in advance. With so many choices out there, its getting a bit over whelming.

i personally went the rifled barrel route with the scope and its real nice and accurate
Try an inexpensive red dot or short range scope, you don't need an expensive setup.
as far as I know the only 20" bbl mosberg makes has accuchokes ( removeable ) and a vent rib and I want one. maybe yours is either real old or cut down from a longer length bbl. could it be the 18.5" smoothbore bbl and does it have, a vent rib, open rifle sights on it or a bead sight? another option that I have used is open rifle type sights by millet. the rear sight has a white outline and the front ramp sight is orange, like a pistol sight and is accurate to 75+yards and I should have 2 sets around here someplace. they use a dove tail to slide in place ( I'll have to double check). maybe we could work a trade as I'm looking for a 20"bbl and have a 28" vent rib bbl with choke tubes in very good cond and the millet sights. pm me the specs on that bbl, I'll look around here and maybe you can cancel that order and get a 28" v.r.bbl and sights for 1/2 what you were gonna pay mosberg. pm me and we'll talk.
nacho grande, Thanks! PM sent.
My setup is a Mossberg Persuader / Cruiser 8 shot. Its definitely a 20 inch. I looked at the 24 inch barrel with the scope Mossberg puts out, but that only fits the 5 shot. I would need to change out the magazine. I "think" I should be able to get away with slugs at less than 50 yards with the 20 inch and no choke. So far, they seem to be pretty accurate at the range.
Knowing me, I prob will get the 24 inch barrel at some point anyway and the magazine converter. Little did I know when I go the Mossberg that it was this flexible. Heck, you can even make it into a muzzleloader.
Any preference on the red dots I mentioned above? Why would one get one verses the other? The one with the screen seems to have more visibility.
