if it's avail and you can afford (for an autoloader) the 22 conversion kit has worked out nice for me. you can get a lot of practice in with your primary guns action, trigger, safety without breaking the bank.
You can get 4 Hi-Points, one in each caliber - .380, 9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP! :clown
jmo but buy a good one you are happy with and don't let the cost figure into it (as much as possible), buy it once and use it/be happy with it for a long long time. even if it costs 3-400$ more now, spread over 30 years use and being able to sell it then for more than you paid for it now in the LONG run is worth every extra penny. a gun in general and especialy for hunting or self defense is no place to pinch penny's.

Amen, Amen, praise the lord... I sound like a Baptist Preacher.
Whatcha gonna be doing with the gun? Plinking? competition? self-defense (concealed Carry)? hunting?
Depending on how you answer these, could help determine a good fit for a pistol.Myself, I have a Taurus PT 145, as my conceal carry gun, its a .45 cal semi-auto, has 10 rounds in the mag one in the pipe, double action, Safety and it shoots great, have yet to have a jam, or malfunction and have put over 1000 rds thru it. I carry Federal 230 grain Jacketed Hollow Points in it all the time. Gun was cheap like 320 new with 2 mags. This is my Self-defense gun.
I also have a .22 browning buckmark pistol for plinking or taking the occasional squirrel while hunting.
And I have a S&W 1911 with custom grips, fiberoptic front site, adjustable rear sight, match grade barrel, and reduced trigger pull to 3lbs. I have a dozen mags, some 8rd, some 10rds, speed holster, and a crap load of mag holsters on a velcro gunbelt. This is my competition gun.
So you see, what you want to do with the gun can and should determine what pistol you plan on purchasing. Obviosly the more you can do with the gun will make it more valuable to you, instead of sitting in the gun safe waiting for you to take it to the range, or hunting.
Good luck and stay safe.
it will mostly be a self defense/ conceal carry. but i want a full size .40 .45 or 9mm. but im also gonna shoot it at the range
