jmo but buy a good one you are happy with and don't let the cost figure into it (as much as possible), buy it once and use it/be happy with it for a long long time. even if it costs 3-400$ more now, spread over 30 years use and being able to sell it then for more than you paid for it now in the LONG run is worth every extra penny. a gun in general and especialy for hunting or self defense is no place to pinch penny's.
thats why i got almost $600 set aside. i know thats not much for a high end pistol, but i can get somethin decent for that
easily enough for a new glock, s&w m&p,or xd, or used sig,hk or higher for colt,kimber. full tactical size and conceal carry don't usualy go hand in hand but with your size you could probably pull it off. for big hands I'd avoid the micro's.

yes, i have thought aboout gettin a 1911. my dad has one. the full size .45. hes done a lot of custom work to like, cocobolo grips i dont think thats how u spell it, and stainless grip screws, skeletized hammer and trigger, extended beavertail, and some more.
