Rob, it is technically legal to do just that now, as it is. Loophole in the law allows you to open carry to and from hunting and fishing.

open carry is OK on the way FISHING? now that makes no sense, so it must be true.

In my view the current legislation that is progressing nicely is a common sense approach to clearing up some gray areas that have been mentioned, such as the shirt tail blown by the wind exposing a legal sidearm. But most of all it is a step in the right direction, allowing law abiding Florida citizens the rights guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment to our great Constitution. As for the comment about the streets of Florida becoming like the wild west, 43 states allow "open carry" and that is certainly not an issue that would be over looked by the "gun banners" if it was a valid argument. These issues being worked out by our legislators go far beyond our beloved outdoor activites, it is preserving our God-given freedoms!

I wasn't aware of that, but I'll take your word for it. I remember in the '80's, there was a glitch in concealed weapon legislation that some folks interpreted as allowing "open carry". It was all over the news and when I went into a 7/11 to get coffee that morning, a guy came in with a pistol strapped on his belt. Everyone stared and backed away and by the time I pulled out of the parking lot, two patrol cars were sliding in. I'm all for preserving our 2nd amendment rights, I'm an NRA member, been hunting and shooting for 40 years and had my CCW since 1985, and there may very well be a loophole, but I can holster my pistol when I get to the woods. Walk into a Dunkin' Donuts or Dennys with a gun on your belt and see how fast you're talking to a adrenaline pumped deputy with your hands on a wall over your head. They have a very tough job, and I'm not out to make it tougher. It's just not worth it to me regardless of success in other states.
