I guess "back-up" was the wrong wording. To be carried with my 44 Mag carbine, .375 Win or Shotgun in the thick stuff as a second hunting gun and carried as a close range weapon when I have the .243, .25-06, 7mm-08, or .308 in the stand. I'll like to kill a few deer and hogs with a hand gun, never done that.

I should have never sold the one I had but damm it made me $250 over what I had in it. That was top dollar in 2005 0r 2006. I have been hearing it from my bud in GA for two weeks, almost everyday how I screwed up selling it. I only had $175 in it and it was the SS gun.

Love the T-Bone photo, it fits you perfectly and by the way no more beer either until the gun rack for my bike arrives, Merry Christmas...

I guess I'm hearing 6 1/2" - 7 1/2" for a hunting gun is about the best?

I have a SBH Bisley (not the hunter) with a 7.5" bbl and I prefer it to the Redhawk cause it fits my hand better, points better, and the perceived recoil seems to be less....but that's all dependent on the person.

The barrel is a little long sometimes, and the thing is dang heavy to have on your hip while running, but I do appreciate the longer sight plane, as it helps my confidence in my accuracy, as I don't get to shoot that much. So far, I've only stuffed the thing into a hog's ear and pulled the trigger, haven't had the opportunity to shoot at anything. Just waiting to get a big nasty bayed up or see one in a ditch.

This is an area that I love. Handguns and handgun hunting. I was doing this before it became fashionable. I started with my Grandfather's 45 secret service revolver from WW1. accurate as hell out 40 yards but the bullet drop was overwhelming. but it woud knockdown what ever u hit. I move to a colt python-357-and what a differnece in reach and noise.(before they became $1200.) 4"barrel and did the job up to Florida size deer-not heavy animals. Northern deer would go for quite a distance before dropping-not enough shocking power-Federal 145 grain. Got my 1st.44 mag in mod.29 8 3/8 barrel. Lookout everything but Grizz. I loved this for a hunting gun. I now have a Thompson Contender in 44mag. love it. Only thing against the 44mag. is bad shot placement will ruin a lot of meat. My summary is this. for pure quality most universal, the colt python was best. I have had 3 of them and trying to find some unknowing person to sell me another for $500.(dont hold my breath) But the 44 mag gives u the confidence to hunt anywhere u want and for whatever you want. just remember the word "Quality". it always pays off in the long run. (longwinded Ole' fart i have become)
