I am thinking about an air rifle for squirells, rabit and stuff. Something cheap but decent. What should I be looking for? walmart has a dual barrel one that is shots 22 and .177 . Will that take down opossums and squirrels, or other back yard pests?

1. Opossums aren't pests. They eat scorpions, snakes, palmetto bugs, dog poop, and a dozen other things you don't want in your back yard.

2. In the state of Florida, it's illegal to hunt any game with an air rifle.

That said, a Gamo Whisper will serve you well (and quietly)...

I'd like for you to show me where it says air rifles are illegal. As far as possums eating stuff like that,so do hogs.
