Hopefully the bad guy won't ever be able to hold a hand gun again after being hit by a .45 in the hand!!!! This article shows exactly how relevant your thread about "Safeties" is.... Had he been carrying a none safety equiped gun like a Glock or Sig it's highly likely he could have acted quicker since he didn't have to think about a safety, click it off, make noise, ect.... We can all learn alot from situations like this...
Point of the story to me is act sooner in the situation and don't carry a gun you have to hear a saftey click to the off position....both good lessons.

Good post Allen. Shows me why I don't want a safety to deal with and why I carry a Glock. That could have ended alot different than it did. Glad to hear it ended with the BG getting caught and this guy living through it.
With a decent semi-auto, you start center mass, and a triple-tap puts the second or third round in the perp's face or forehead. He shoulda popped the perp in the stairwell before it escalated.
