is there a rifle that is good for small game like squirell and deer or hog? not like an expensive one with changable barrels I mean more like a caliber.

You'll get all kinds of feedback, but I'd have to say .25-06 or .222. Both are big enough to take down a deer or hog with a well-placed shot, and still not too big to take the head off of a tree rat. .222 ammo may be a bit more expensive, but it's a classic.

22 mag is the all around caliber you need

it's not a rifle, but a shotgun would fit the bill,that and or a 22 mag rifle both are great for squirrels and hogs and the shotgun with buckshot or slugs for deer and larger hogs. some wma's do not allow centerfire rifles for small game, which include hogs, which I cant see a hog that can get up to or over 300lbs as SMALL game, but thats another story.

Unless you know of a centerfire version of a .22 mag, it can't be used for deer (at least not in FL and PA). I will concede that the .22-250 would be a better choice than the 25-06, but it's the first one that came to mind. I happen to know where there is (or was) a beautiful m70 featherweight .22-250 for sale. M12Gunboy can speak to that though. I had to put that one out of my mind, because mama said no guns as gifts. Drat the luck.
