Ok i just got a taurus model 44 .44 mag with a ported barrel today on a trade.

My question is: whats the difference between .44 mag & .44 Special ? I know the magnum is more powerful but how much more? and what do yall recommend i use for ammo? This gonna be my truck/fill the feeder gun.

Im probably gonna reload but gotta buy some stuff to do it..

Thanks ahead!

the 44 special (not as common as it used to be and maybe a little harder to find) is the same bullet as the 44 mag ( with a shorter overall length, like the 38/357) with less velocity and recoil. bullet wt's app 180 gr - 240 gr at app 700-850 fps. at 25 yds or so with a quality bullet and well placed shot should be able to put a hog down no problem, but why not just use the 44 mag and have more power and distance. with the 44 mag you will be able to use a heavier bullet also. what bbl length is it? congrats and good luck. a good heavy duty/stiff belt will make carrying a lot easier. check out wilderness holster belts.
