I couldn't stand it.....
I was honestly going to sell this rifle. However I have a ton of ammo for it, and with an unknown gun ban imminent, I decided I might better keep it.
{For anyone that missed the first one, I bought an H&R single shot .25-06 from a forum member about 3 years ago. It was a project gun and I did a total restoration on it

All this talk lately about duracoat, I really want to give it a shot on my own. From talking to Scott and reading, I think I can do it. I put a air compressor on my santa list, so instead of doing the "kit" duracoat, I hope to buy some in bulk and air brush it on. I also want to do both of my carry guns
Thinking about changing out the stock and forearm to a synthetic thumbhole. We have debated the pro's/cons of synthetic vs. wood ad nauseum on here. The fact is, it is my project and I like synthetic on a hunting rifle. My decision. I am going to refinish the wood regardless
Yesterday I completely disassembled the gun applied the stripper to get the finish off. The barrel is completely done. I took the extractor apart and had to really search to find a post on how to put it back together. I think I got it right, but won't know until I get the action on it to physically check it. Also will be putting new glass on it eventually. I dropped this gun year before last. Not all the way to the ground, but it fell from the shooting rail to the seat on a tripod stand, and it landed right on the bell of the scope. I have just never trusted it since then. Plus it put a huge gouge in the paint on the barrel all the way to the metal, and a rust spot formed. Kinda the inspiration to re-do this project
I am in no hurry to get this project done. I don't need the gun, so if it takes me a year, then so be it
I will post pics along the way
if you can do duracoat you can do cerakote and its ceramic based properties are more durable than the duracoat..
do some research..
(bulk kit for graphite black is under 100 on brownells and would do alot of guns with airbrush application)
