My dad killed one a couple weeks ago when we were in a WMA that was about 4 feet long. Came to find out later that you're not suppose to kill snakes in WMA's. Guy let us keep it and said god bless for killing it. Dad is mounting it for my nephew since he shot it with his gun.
There is no law that states you can't kill them. Now whether you should or shouldn't is a different topic. But there is no law against it
Here's my law....if I walk out to my stand in the afternoon and see a rattlesnake....Im gonna make sure I dont have to walk back in past him in the dark when Im coming back to camp...sorry for the snake, but its probably going to be a bad day for him....The last one I killed at my place was sitting in the road, right by one of my corn spinners...he was over 5 feet long and only had the beginning of one rattle....couldn't make any noise to warn you....scary...he's on my wall..
i killed a 4ft one in ocala wma last year. it was tasty, and cured the skin with salt. looks ok.
