So I am doing a euro mount on the 7 pt I shot Thanksgiving morning. I got real lazy witht his one and did not cut the flesh off. I just tossed a rope over a limb, tied it to the antler, and hoisted up off the ground to keep the critters away and let the maggots do their work. The process was going way too slow for me
So Monday I took it and put it in a dog crate (to keep the critters away) and just left it. Within 30 minutes I had dermastid beetles on it. And this morning it is completely cleaned off. I mean nothing left except bone and it has hardly any smell to it. Just a tiny bit of meat left around the bases of antlers.
Ill never boil a skull again to clean it off
They sell these things on the internets for big money. Not sure why anyone would buy them when they just show up out of the ground. Thinking about trying to raise some and sell them on my own
dude.. i now you had been hunting for longer then me.. but i told you when i saw that redneck lynched deer in the tree. I said "man put it on the ground and the red ants or something will tear it up quick..
yeah but dont the ants eat the cartlidge too? so the teeth fall out. thats why some people wrap them in chicken wire or hardware cloth and throw them in a pond and let the minnows and stuff clean them up
And I don't have ants in my yard :squid
