This brings back some memories, we used to tear them up. At certain times of the year, we wouldn't even need a gig, just a large sack to put them in. When I was younger, a gig and flashlight moving around my grandmas pond at night would get the job done. When I got a little older and would go on camping trips down at the river, me and my friends would head down to the gravel bars at the rivers edge and the ground would be moving there would be so many. You could fill a sack in no time.

I have never seen a frog big enough around here for eating.

We used to do it when I was growing up in the Panhandle with a headlamp, gig and burlap bag. We'd go around the edges of lakes like Lake Jackson up in Tallahassee around where the reeds would grow near the shore. I haven't heard of anyone doing it in Central Florida though. Not saying you can't but I haven't heard. It's easy enough to do though. :>) Let us know if you get around to it. Nothing like some good ol' fried froglegs!

You need a godevil and find a lake choked with hydrila. Start a couple hours after dark, you will see them up on top of hydrilla. Just motor along at adle with the spot light on the one you want to gig and wah lah. Do invest in a good frog gig though those things have some tough skin. The best gig is the one that has the replacable points. Look out for cotton mouths they like to get up on the matt aswell, they are huntiong the same thing. I like to cruese the edges where the hydrilla meets cattails for the big boys. Good luck and post pics please.......
