I would think you would be better off doing the catalog thing.
I'm not a huge fan of big box stores and catalogs. I'd rather spend my time in a smelly old tackle shop. It would save me a few bucks now but the benefits are not there. Like when I need them to save me some bait or Exactly where the fish are today(not where they point the tourists), or i need something ordered. It evens out in the end.
I build/fix rods for me,family, and friends so i don't bulk order. 6-10 rods a year is all. Most of my work is simple diamonds,double diamonds, chevrons.lattice, and simple weaves. Next one i wrap i'll post a pic.
