i've had people ask me if our hunts are canned hunts. I tell them no. you are gonna earn that hog. we spot and stalk. the only exception to the rule is hunts I've done for our Hunters with disabilities. I have no permanent ground blinds. I construct them 1 week ahead of time and they come down the day after the hunt. I try to make it as much of a hunt as I can.

I agree with Skunk Ape on the high fence.

Ive hunted a high fence place and it all depends on the outfitter. Some people cater to hunters who want to be walked to the stand, told "the deer should show up around 7 and call me when you make a kill".This is by no means hunting. Then there are ones like the one i went to who taylor the hunt to you . I told the guide i wanted to be able to use the property and walk looking for sign and game. He put me in a promising area and cut me loose. there was nothing "canned about this hunt" I walked for hours and never saw" the fence".The game was as spooky as evr and i had to work for the deer i took.I only saw 3 deer on that hunt and they were together . 2 does and the buck i shot. He wasnt even a huge deer but i had been hunting state land for 2 seasons, had not drawn a doe permit, had not bought my land yet and was itching for a better opportunity.I hunted for 8 hours and took this deer at the end of the day.Again it varies from place to place and guide to guide.

outfitters will probably make a difference. I guess it is hard to say. I have never hunted a high fence and I would probably never spend my own money to go.

there is no such thing as the BEST DEER HUNTER

take any guy that is an awesome hunter who takes beautiful Iowa or Ohio monsters every year, be them a "PRO' or average joe on public or private land, who is agreed upon by others in that area as the "best" . Take the guy that is his counterpart and harvests phenomonal ( which definiton varies from person to person) deer every year in the swamps and pine flatwoods of Florida.

Switch them around, the Ohio guy in Florida, and vice versa, and see if anyone would think either of them were the "best' now.

i read an article where Lee and Tifanny Lakosky went to Jackie Bushmans ranch in Montana, and were pretty much lost on how to find and kill that "trophy" Of course Bushman put him on one, but he pretty much said he wouldnt even know where to start, such a different animal to hunt
