Why would I love it in 5 years?
With all this talk on DMU's,tagging, point restrictions and other crap I will be looking for a lease in Georgia next year. At least in Georgia they have a proven system that is based on solid information. In my opinion FWC and whatever other agencies that make the rules in Florida have a very hard time or are incapable of collecting and utilizing accurate data to manage our woods and water. If you want our hunting to suffer the same fates as grouper, red snapper and snook fishing by all means beg them to change the system that has worked for years and see what you end up with. Just remember that once it's gone we'll never get it back.
There are a lot of states that have deer tags, antler resrictions and public lands. Most of them seem to work quite well. Of the ones that I am familure with there is no difference in the regs between public and private lands.
Most seem to put a limit on the amount of bucks you can take per year (1,2 etc). Many have tags required to be placed on the harvestd animal and report cards filled out.
I can attest to the fact that as a young boy/teen we were allowed one buck. Even being graced to grow up on private ground MOST folks I knew never shot more than 1 buck, even if they never bought a license. If they want more meat they shot a doe or two. There were always those that outlawed, and there will always be. Just the way it is.
I know where my brother lives kids under 16 and those over 62 can still harvest a 3" spike. Everyone else is held to a 3-point or 4-point to a side rule depending on the county. At first most hated it, but now they are seeing bigger deer--- both in body and horns--- and most now like it. My brother says he sees several legal bucks a season now where before if you saw any buck you were lucky.
granted I'm not a native here and don't know how things used to be, but have seen miraculous turn arounds in other states for turkey and deer. "I" think there is room for improvement or why else is everyone going to Georgia and spending big money there instead of here. If all the states surrounding us have good hunting, so should we.

Well said, and agreed 100%. This would be a good start. If its been a successful change in other states, why not here. The private land issue isn't really an issue, IMO. Many more hunters on public land, and most leases are 6 or 8 point or better anyways. At least down in Zone A and B.
