Sunday and Monday I am set to hunt Osceola WMA. Last year I had a location that was ideal. It was full of buck and big ones at that. It was about a half mile deep into the woods through a small trail that I could get my truck 90% of the way through. Yesterday I decided to walk and stalk my location to see what had changed. Well, I can tell you it's still full of deer...and its also too swampy to get my truck through. That leaves me with a big dilemma. I would prefer to bring the buck to my truck and drive 15 minutes home to clean it. However, that's going to be nearly impossible to drag one a half mile through swampy trails to get to my truck. These seem to be my options.
#1. Hunt my usual location and have a good chance of success, but have to field dress it right there
#2. Get the workout of a lifetime trying to drag it a half mile.
#3. Hunt a new location.
I tried staking out some new locations yesterday with little luck. Things were too dry and foliage to high to find tracks. I didn't have much luck finding rubs either. I did find spots where some palmetto had been broken down and the stride between breaks was too far to be human and only a stem or two had snapped. Looked like possible a deer jumping through?
Anyway.. I would sincerely appreciate your opinions as I am seriously divided on this.
Kill the deer then worry about getting it out later. Go to Dick's and get a jet sled

They make dragging an animal over crap super easy. It just slides right over the top
What he said
Kill the deer and drag it out.

Option 4:
Sign me up as a guest and I'll sit in that nasty ole swamp and drag it out for you of course...
Seriously, I wish I had that problem. If you don't get that sled, I normally take a hand truck with me. It's not the easiest thing to drag through the woods, but it works in a pinch!
