Just got on a lease near Callahan, Fl. Very close to the Georgia line. Does anyone know what the average weight of the deer in this area are? Also, how bout the rut? I've seen the FWC calendar but just wanted to confirm. I normally hunt in Ocala. I can't wait to see what this area can produce compared to Ocala. 4400 acres...40% is agriculture fields (corn as of right now)...been that way for about 10 years. What do yall think?

I think deer in ag areas may be 10 or 15 lbs heavier than woods deer.Other than that no difference.
Thanks guys. Hopefully I can make something happen up there this year.
I need to put out trail cams and do some more scouting. I have only had enough time for truck scouting, but I plan on walkin quite a bit in the next couple weeks.
In Ocala, corn feeders help to bring game in front of the camera. I have never actually harvested anything at a feeder but think that it helps to keep the deer around. If there is so much ag (standing corn) around, what can I use to make the deer less camera shy? I'm not looking for any particular patterns right now, as the bucks are still in groups, but I do what to do some "digital" scouting to see what kind of deer are out there. It's mainly a bird hunting lease but I do know deer and hogs are around. What do you think?
Mineral Lick?
Molasses?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I live about 15 mins from Callahan and the deer on average around here is the same everywhere else in Northeast FL. A doe usually runs anywhere from 80lbs to 120lbs and bucks are anywhere from 100lbs to 150lbs. You do see a few over that sometimes. The rut usually runs from mid sept until the end of muzzleloading season. They will post rut early in the gun season but you won't see a whole lot of activity. It also depends on the area around here. The deer around us are pretty funny and sometimes you will have a buck in St. Johns county that is rutting and in Nassau county they might not even be close to rutting. We also use soy beans. Golden kernals are always key but they will never turn away from soy beans.
