That's what I do Lacy,always soak in ice for a few days. I've killed a ton of deer but only the older,full rutting bucks had the gaminess.Honestly,they're worse than any boar hog I've ate.

Funny that some folks bitch about boar hogs. Ill eat every one of them. That one Carlos shot the other night had absolutely no smell to it at all. When I shot my 10 pt I couldnt even go back to where I shot it he smelled so rank

well what you should do with that kind of meat is.. (allen taught me this) Put it in a cooler.. fill the cooler bottom with ice, put the meat in to, then more ice on top if that. Then open the cooler water release valve on the front and leave the cooler tipped up so the melted water can run out. Every day refill the cooler to the top with ice. Do not let the ice melt and the meat get to the bottom. This will let all the blood and nastyness drain out off the meat. Do that for a week or so .. If its real stinky put some bacon soda on top of the top layer of ice. after a week or so the smell and gamey taste will be gone.

Also funny cause every single time ive eaten deer it has been gamey no matter how ive eatin it. Thats why to this day i still prefer hog.
