I am going to be going up to Levy county this weekend to do some hunting. I looked up the rut in Woods&Water mag and they forecast the rut to start Sep23. Now that it is over would it do me any good to us doe estrus and doe calls or should I just stick to a buck grunt?

What are some of your tactics for hunt outside the rut?

Thanks

Use deer dogs! Seriously, I would hunt the trails to and from food sources or just hunt the food sources. It really depends how pressured the land is that I would be hunting.

THINK LIKE A BUCK!!!!

Seriously. The rut is come and gone. Hunting pressure is on, and has the deer mostly nocturnal.
Find the thickest, nastiest place you can with buck sign. Play the wind, and slip in and out of those type spots. Usually where planted pines meet a swamp bottom are good travel areas. Its hard to catch a buck out in the open pretty spots after the rut is over

the estrus cycle comes again in 28 days so in late Nov. it can happen and yes estrus urine can be used with good luck.Food is tops in the list but a late doe would never be passed up.Most bucks that make it passed the onslaught will be a day wiser so look for better cover with a main food source and water nearby. Also do not forget about the scrapes these can be calling cards for any late doe and a buck will follow.
