sam03, you only have till Jan. 22 since you are in zone 3. If the weather would cooperate you could possibly have a food plot up in a couple of weeks. English peas(frog eyes), Austrian winter peas and probably some other cool season vegetables would intrest Bambi. There are no guarantees on this, but as soon as some crops start cracking the ground and more certainly in a 2-4 leaf stage deer will decimate small patches. Heavy rain, cold weather, all will delay or destroy germination of seed. UF has a lot of info on cool weather food plots and cool weather vegetables that might be used. If you choose to go this route, you need to be working on it tomorrow!! Several years back we planted soy beans in October for a quick food plot for a guy that was into bow hunting. They sprouted in a few days, the deer found them and they were gone all in about 2 weeks. Since you have already been feeding corn in the area, that might be a draw as acorns and such are probably slowing down. The suggestion that deutze made, a false scrape, ain't a bad idea either. A false scrape, a corn pile and stand site that uses the wind can't hurt your chances. Don't give up on him, kill him and show us his picture! Treefarmer

I've been chasing hogs on a private piece for almost 2 yrs and it's becoming an obsesion. I don't want one from anywhere else. it's like Ahab chasing the white whale. the property owner and tractor drivers see them all the time, here today/gone tomorrow. one of these days our paths will cross in a place I'll be able to get it out of

gonna go out on a limb here and give you some ideas..

Don't hunt the sign, most rubs are done at night.

Look at the terrain (google earth, aerial maps) look for natural funnels, depressions ( like ditches) or even areas that still have some thick growth.

Look for your bedding areas and find the trails coming and going. If you can find where trails cross , that is a good area to up the odds of seeing deer.

If he comes out at night hunt those hardwoods hundred yards in or so late afternoon or early morning.. try sneaking in on good wind and try not to cross his trail
