I have lived in Fl. my whole life. I have been hunting for 7 yrs. in Florida. I've only hunted hogs until this year when I drew some quota hunts. My wife's family has a 115 acre farm in Indiana, and thats where I do most of my deer hunting. The deer up there respond to grunt calls, doe bleets, and rattling. Yesterday I had a little Buck come in at about 35 yrds. He did not come the way I needed him to in order to give me a shot. I tried doe bleets, and some grunt calls. He totally ignored them. I'm used to some response from deer when calling. The Buck payed no attention at all. He went about his business and walked off into the woods. Does anyone have luck with calls around here?
Calling absolutely works. You will never find me in a stand w/o my grunt tube. However it's like anything else. It doesn't work all the time. Most people don't know how to use calls and they act like they are in an orchestra blowing a grunt tube and turning a can over every 30 seconds
Who does that? 😉

I'm patient when calling. I usually try to call in Bucks if I see them and think they are not coming my way. I try to get there attention and hopefully bring them close enough for a shot. I only call once or twice an hour. And if I'm rattling I don't do the t.v. show rattle. I try to keep it slow and low, not so loud... Some of the guys on t.v. crash the antlers together so loud it's ridiculous.
