That's just tragic example of why you NEVER squeeze the trigger if you don't know 100% what you are shooting at. Hard to imagine mistaking a man, walking upright, probably close to 6 foot tall, for a coyote, which walk on four legs and a big one ain't much more than 2 feet high. There's more to these guys story than what we read here.
not condoning the shooting but remember it was dark and with the contour of the land the wardens head shoulders only may have been visable. I can remember staring at a stump with a few branches that I swore was a nice bucks silloette for hours, until full light came up, then felt real foolish but glad i did'nt squeeze one off

Story says these guys were using night vision equipment.
