oyster i have never hunted eglin but some of my freinds have i havent cobia fished in a long time i dont have a big boat and the piers around here get really crowded when the ling show up i did have an uncle that lived in sarasota we would go snook fishing when we went down there and that was a blast and i dont think the locals down there fish for mullet because they were everywhere we caught and ate some and there was nothing wrong with them try it if you get the chance

Lots of folks eat mullet. Since they banned gill nets years ago, the cast netters can't catch enough to put a dent in the population, and they've really thrived. It also helped bring back snook, trout, reds, and several other fish that were being killed in the gill nets.
Of course, we don't hold a Mullet Festival every year like they do in Niceville, but they do get some attention. You can buy smoked mullet in some of the grocery stores, and you'll see roadside stands selling it at certain times of the year.
theres a creek by me thats full of mullet.. every cast net will get you like 5 to 6 huge ones..
