OK, got it, so I could have gotten busted last year either of the 2 days I hunted dove on a WMA...all for a $30 mistake/not knowing. Now the migratory bird permit is only good so long, not the entire year, so that is why I waited till Oct to get my license last year...will need to check that out. The migratory bird permit comes free with your hunting license, you just gotta tell them you want it. It is good for certain date range regardless of when you buy your license

OK so after I get the sportsman license I can apply for the quota hunts, what if the hunts are too fa away and I don't even know the area...or...do you only apply for certain areas...sorry to seem so stupid on all this. Frank You apply for whatever area you want. The application period begins June 1. You missed the 1st phase, but the 2nd phase is coming up soon, like next week or so. You can sometimes pick up quality permits in phase2. And part of the fun is scouting new areas. Let google earth and online satellite maps be your friend

Thank Iluv2hunt...it was hard enough to find the 1 dove area to hunt let alone everything on Blackwater which is the closest to me I think. Their rules for the most part are confusing and when I called they were rude...Now you guys that have been doing this for years know the drill, I am like a blind man trying to track. Maybe I can find someone that goes to one and tag along. Don't I have to buy a new license before applying for a quota hunt? Frank

frankwt, This is one of the bucks that I took off Point Washington. You should be about 25 miles to the west of it. Should be easy to get one of the permits. Also we may still have one or two openings in our club. We are just north of PCB on Hwy 79 and Steel field rd, 2000 ac , with a lot of deer and hogs. Dues are $600 a year.

The rack in the truck was one that was taken 3 day's earlier, it came out of the same tree stand. The spike was standing on a power line as I drove by, he just stood there so I got out and bang. I gave him to a friend who was unable to hunt. At least he had some meat in the frez. Point Washington is one of the over looked wma's around. It has a lot of foot travel and bike riders, so the deer see people all year.

When I was living in Ft Walton beach, I went with couple of friends I was in the USAF with over to hunt Point Washington. We camped at a place of Hwy 79 and were at the gate when it opened 3 morning in a row. Didn't see a deer for 3 days! But there was sign everywhere, and it was during the rut. Problem was the moon was full, and the wind was blowing about 20 knots during the day, but dead calm at night. So from what we could tell all the activity was happening after the gates closed and the sun went down. We went into one area full of scrub oak and sandy ground, and judging from the tracks it looked like they had a deer orgy the night before! We took some branches and wiped the tracks out of an area about 20yards square at about 10 am. We came back to it just before we left in the evening, about 5pm, and it was still wiped clean. Next morning, we went back and there were tracks covering almost every square inch of what we'd swept out the day before! Always wanted to go back there when the conditions were better, because we could tell there were a lot of deer in there. Plus, we never saw another hunter the whole time we were there. It was like early January, so there was still plenty of season left. I may have to make a trip up there this year, just to check it out again.
