went out last night and the tide was comin in fast and the ballyhoo were comin in anywhere from two at a time to about a hundred at a time. everytime the big groups came in the snook went crazy, poppin under the pier and coming out in to the lights and blowin up the ballyhoo, finger mullet and any other white bait around. water was pretty clear so i had to use lighter tackle than i like to use to pull snook out from under the pier, they wouldnt hit any of the baits on the heavier test line. i got two out from under the pier, one successfully landed and the other straightened out the hook. i lost 5 or 6 hooks and had to tie and retie several leaders from the fray. the guy next to me landed a couple and went through a whole pack of hooks plus 2 that i gave him. it was a fun night, im gonna try it again tonight i think. :rockon
one side note: im not really sure why i do this, and im sure some of you have done the same thing, but last night for a split second i thought i could stop and turn a large snook that was in a big hurry by grabbing the rod and the line at the same time and pulling. well needless to say the power pro ate the underside of my fingers up. ive done it before and knew better than to do it, but something took over and for a split second i knew i could stop the fish. i was wrong. the fish was peeling line off the reel, it was worth a try.
