i think you are right about january, i know that when it has been warmer, the shrimp are not as big. they can be decent, but in the winter they are large, jumbo shrimp. still should be some out though, just not the same quality. if you can keep them alive its easy free bait though.

They are small because we have not had any red tide.

😆 Hi to all,

Yes, I'm a new member and new resident at florida. I just retired from the military, Army 23 years. I love fishing. Been out many times on my 1993 Aquasport w/85 hp at Baypines Florida. The pass couples times I've been out near Johns pass , by the two islands between the channel. I've caught Red fish , Blues and many catfishes. Shrimps appear to be the best bait at this location. Pin fish okay and cut up lady fish works well too. But with lady fish, you usually end up catching black tip sharks. I tried to get waypoints to change my fishing spot, but it appears that no one in florida give or share spots,; which I understand. So I gave that up and now find my own fishing spots with my Garmin 400s GPS/fish finder. This piece of electronic works well. Any how, does anyone know or can share where I can catch my own shrimps? lake , salt water or even when I take the boat out. So far I have been told that with dog food and a good dip net I can catch shrimps. I don't want to catch a whole lot, just enough to fish for a day. Yes, I can buy them , but they ae kinda expenive now and usually are not good sizes. Anyway, if anyone wants to share information on how and where I can catch a few shrimps; I would apprecite it. Even if I don't get a response, I want to comment that this is a good forum for florida locals to share our fishing experiences. Thanks for letting me be part of it..

Good fishing to all.... 😎
