the pld way was the bridge gaff but last several years it has been by net!
Plus I take several rods ready rigged just in case a foul up or break and I can switch over fast.Plus those extra spools make for quick changes if needed!

you aint using a bridge gaff from the skyway man.. unless it retracts like 50 feet.. or more.. lol

No mine has a 50 rope on it though each end has a clip on it.I fished mainly off of piers in Panama city so they are not that tall.

I use a bridge gaff from the skyway. A four prong three pound gaff head with an eyelit on a rope.

Works great for me!!
