need some help setting my boat up for shrimping. It's a 14' aluminum with a 25hp 4 stroke yamaha.
I know i need lights. I'm not sure what kind, color, how many, or where to even look for them. Seen a couple on CL for $150 per. not going to happen.
Batteries??? per light? will not be a generator on board.
Dip nets- I heard stay with clear mono? again i'm not sure where to get them at?
Anything else i may need?
Going to try and stay around the melbourne area as it's close to home. Any place in general where i need to start looking?
Thanks for any help
The boys over in Titusville just hang lanterns over the water. You want to set up at pinch points. Bridges and tight spots in channels are going to funnel more shrimp through and move water by faster. Good luck man!
Fast moving water near grass flats. bright light and dip net. I've never gone in a boat. I'll go to a seawall or pier.
yeah, you could probably google bully netting too, like they do down in the keys for lobsters. when i wade the grass flats and seawalls over here i use a white light to spot then switch it to red, the red seems to spook them less. its harder for me to spot them with the red, maybe cause im not accustomed to it or its just not as fast but switching the lights works for me. i dont use a clear net either. i have a green net and it works great.
I use these brinkman lights. They work very well. I use 6 total, 2 at front of boat on each side, 2 midway back and 2 at the back of the boat. I run 3 per battery. Make sure you do not have them on out of the water or they will burn up quick.
I bought them at WalMart for $19.99 each. Not all WalMart's carry them though.
