Small sharks, around the 30-40" range are great tablefare. As soon as I catch one I cut its throat and gut it and submerge it in ice. I like to marinade in Italian dressing and pop on the grill for a few minutes. Great eating IMHO
Hey vonnick52. I meant to say i used to fish the bottom all the time and wonder why i was only catching shark. I always target snook and reds. By no reason is a shark fisher a bad fisherman. Its just everyone who first gets into saltwater fishing puts a big weight on and goes and buys squid and fished the bottom. Ive been there and see every single snowbird doing the same thing and wondering and asking me how im catching snook and they are only catching catfish, shark and stingray.
Thats all i meant by that. I meant "i" finally learned to catch snook and reds the right way. I was unexperienced. Now "i've" learned!
When I lived on Jekyll Island, GA we used to catch a lot of 2-4 foot black tips and hammerheads while trout fishing from the bridge or in the mouths of the creeks coming out of the marsh. Never considered keeping them and eating them, just a trash fish to get off the line as soon as possible. Then we took a trip down to Marco Island/10,000 Islands area for some snook fishing, and while out on the flats a couple miles offshore we caught a couple of blacktips that were 120-150 lbs. The guides took a couple of slabs of meat off each one, and that night we had fried shark, snook and redfish for dinner. It was tough to say which one tasted the best! We couldn't wait to get back to Georgia and catch some blacktips! Well, we lived up there about 3 or 4 more months after our trip to Marco, and during that time we didn't catch another stinking blacktip! It was like now we know they are good eating, they won't get on the line. We had to suffer through with just trout, redfish, flounder and sheepshead. LOL

I can definitely get on board with that, I know what it's like to cruise for 7-8 hours to get to a wayyyy offshore wreck only to pull up 80-100 little reef sharks....go through 200 leaders in a night. Sharks can definitely be irritating when you're trying to fill up the box. :toast
Cool . Didnt want you to think i was dissing anyone man! :toast
