Well, it's 'comforting' to hear I'm not alone in the snap, crackle, pop department!!! :pinch

I'd be up for a walk in the woods/shoot the breeze (if nothing else) type of get together. I've been out of work since moving to FL June '09, so I don't know when I'll get to actually hunt. You folks do the license/season thing a lot different than I'm used to. In NH and MA, basically if land isn't posted "No Hunting" and it's a big enough area, it's open to use. Of course, if you can find who owns the land, it's ethical to ask. And any public land is open unless posted, too. So I have to get my head around this quota system you have.
I also need some edumicatin' about the nasty critters (snakes and spiders) that I never had to worry over. So a walk in the woods would suit me just fine.

I very rarely if ever carried a sidearm plus rifle up north. now I carry a 38 or 357 snubbie with snake shot esp at this time of year. if carrying a scoped rifle, I think a sidearm is the way to go. 1- for snakes,2- if I get chased up a tree I want something to shoot with me, I will load 1-2 snake shot and 3 180 gr jhp's

Yea, there is a lot to learn about Florida public land but since there is over 5 million acres made available to us it is well worth the effort. Maybe start here: http://www.myfwc.com/RECREATION/WMASites_index.htm

Are you interested in hunting? If you are over 65 like me and a Fl resident your id that says your date of birth (like a drivers license) is all you need to access the WMAs - for the most part everything related to using the WMAs is free to us old farts! :crip

I'll be 61 in September, so I have a way to go before I get the freebies :no .
As for the WMA's, they'll probably be my stomping grounds until/unless I meet up with a landowner who'll let me hunt his land.

Yea, I hear ya but every thing is relative. I moved here from Md and there ain't no place to hunt there unless you own the land so you can say what you want re the wma's of Fl but they are a heck of a lot better than paying for a guided hunt...

I tell people that hunting success is 10% skill, 10% local knowledge and 80% luck so just build up your local knowledge of one wma and work on your skill and enjoy 50,000 acres of "public" land like Green Swamp (right next to 50k of Richloam and across from 50k of Green Swamp West, etc, etc.) πŸ™‚

Thanks for the advice!!! I didn't mean to diss the WMA's, if it sounded that way. It's no different than most of the public land in MA.
I've also wondered about Lake Marion Creek WMA. Does anyone know anything about that area?

And my apologies for hijacking the thread- I'll take it to the WMA Forum.
