I am old enough to have read and remembered all of what you wrote. After only bird hunting the last 20 years and not much of that, I have decided to do more and just bought a 308 to get that done.
I woke up one morning (old Texas boy here) and after moving to Destin FL in 2000, realized all my friends were boring, all we did was sit at the bars and country club drinking cocktails and leering at good looking women...trying to make more $$ than each other while discussing politics and the stock market. Now that most of us have lost everything we almost had in this economy, we are even more boring than before. I needed new friends
So to get back to my roots, hunting/fishing, an oil patch brat and worker, I joined a couple of these forums, am making new friends with a sportsman's mentality ...so I am there! Frank
+1, never get into it with a "SOD" they got nothing to loose and you got everything to loose. I'm definately past the midway point of my lifes journey (53) and trying to turn back time as much as possible, all those wasted years not hunting and getting fatter and in more pain daily. since app 10/09 joining fohaf and getiing back into the outdoors have met some great people, good online entertainment, lost about 75 lbs, and got my first hog. hopefully this year i will be able to kick it up a notch or 2 more. you found a good site.
Hey, hey! Another SOD here (60). Got into hunting only about 4 years ago- always wanted to, but 'life got in the way'. My youngest son got the archery bug and I caught it! Now I'm in FLorida and he's back in Mass., hunting big deer and turkeys. I need to get out there and see what I can find- a nice hog would be a real score! BTW- I'm a WMA guy, too- no $$$ for a lease/club, and no connections with landowners (yet).
You old farts need to form team and join the competition so we can kick your asses in it. Just kidding, I have lots of respect for you guys,I think it's a great thing what your doing and I'm really not that far behind you.
