This is the first time i have not bagged anything yet.Got the traps catching all the time so my freezer is still full. :clap
theres a lot more hunters out this year and a lot more guys farting around but we still have a good time any way.
Got 10 days off so i am gonna hunt & fish my ass off :2guns
Last year I had allot more fun and spent much more time hunting and camping. With the economy in the toilet I can't afford to hunt as much as I would like to. With that being said, I have killed more deer this year and will probably also kill more hogs then in years past. Just had to hunt closer to home this year and not go as much as i would have liked to. All in all a great season so far.
Haven't dumped anything in the freezer yet this year, but so far, I've seen over 30 deer. That's like 6 times the number of deer I saw last year. I just got back from 3 days on a quota in the panhandle. Didn't see anything Sat or Sun, but I had 5 buck in range on Monday. Of course, as it always goes, the first 3 were smaller, so I passed on em, since they wouldn't stop. The next 2 were nice (8pt & 10+pt monster). It was at that point that I found out my scope got bumped somehow on the trip up there, cus I couldn't hit a VW at 200 yards. Found out later that day after missing both at 190 yards from a rested position, that I was shooting 3 FEET to the right at 110 yards (so like almost 6 feet at 190 yards). Was so PO'd, I packed my crap and headed back to O' Town. 2 days in the rain and fog, walking miles to and from the stand, and the last day, finally only having to walk 350 yards from the truck, and I see legal deer that I would have had better luck throwing the gun at. No joy this weekend either. 10 year anniv obligations. Next trip, New Years weekend. Maybe it will be colder, drier, and the buck will move more.
Not very much seen since last post a month ago. Econfina Creek WMA seems to have dried up. I think the deer there have a GPS tracker attached to my hunting gear someplace, and I've yet to be able to find it. I have scouted almost every single area in the still hunt area, and a good 5 square miles of the dog hunt area. And every time I find good sign and set up shop, they move. I work the wind, use good scent discipline, climber, ground blind, leafy camo, and yet, nada. :taz I've only talked to 2 guys hunting the still hunt area that have had any luck at all, and none of them have seen anything since New Years weekend. I did find some not-so-well hidden stands with surprisingly large quantities of corn coming up in piles out of the ground like magic, and some even had apple halves growing out on top of the piles. Amazing considering they are in the middle of planted pines. I didn't think apples and corn grew in planted pine groves. And so close to marked trails. Amazing. No wonder FWC frowns on baiting in WMAs; the stuff just sprouts up everywhere!
Pretty good this year had alot of fun. With all the people in the woods it was interesting but i bagged 2 does and a really nice 7pt.
