I wouldn't use the homemade pads in a shooting house or ground blind. The smell alone of the regular pads in an enclosed truck when I left one on accidentally, and I almost choked myself out.
Can you say "lung cancer"? I'm not gonna risk it. If it keeps bugs away at the low levels dispersed from the unit, can you imagine what it could do to you if it accumulates?
Hee hee hee. Just the pads. Butane is butane whether filled at the factory or in your garage.
I wouldn't think of using my homemade dipped pads in an enclosed area, I worry enough about inhaling the fumes from the storebought ones in a ladder stand. longterm exposure to these fumes may explain alot of our strange behaviors. me, I was F'd in the head long before I bought a thermacell, " must have ate alot of paint chips as a kid"
