a smoother well pollished barrel will be easier to clean, collect less copper and most likely shoot better. for it to be done right by a smith or mfg it takes alot of man hours and is a general PIA, and would increase the overall cost of the gun, thats why it's not done to any great extent ( if at all ) from the factory, unless youre spending big bucks for a custom gun or barrel. my smithy buddy told me about a product that can improve and smooth a barrel ( not nearly as much or as well as by hand by a pro , but alot easier and cheaper ) it's called tubbs final finish kit. it comes with app 50 rounds of a low recoiling bullet in your caliber, that you just follow the instructions and shoot them thru the gun, and should smooth/pollish the bbl to some degree. I haven't tried it yet so don't hold me to anything. just an FYI. I know all serious competitive shooters have their bbls pollished very well. will it realy matter for hunting accuracy only? doubtfull. but if you want to squeeze every tiny bit of accuracy you can get from your gun, you may want to look into it. and it would probly be a good idea to help break in a new gun.
I have a kit in .27 caliber at home for my faux Ti if I ever get around to it.
