Windows XP, Toshiba lap top,2 years old,Norton anti virus, thats about all i know 😆

not sure on xp, but got accessories, then system tools, and see if there is a scan disk option,,,,,,,,,,,,,, use it,,,,,, set it for advanced and let it check sytem and data areas, then after that defrag....

If in the system tools option there isnt a scan disk options,,,,, hopefully you still have the "my computer" shortcut still on your desktop,,,,,,,,, click it, pick the drive you want to fix, right click it, then click properties,,,,, on the properties tab, go to the tools tab,,,, it should come up with a sytem or disk scan,,,,,,,,,,,,, click it and choose the advanced options,,,,,,,,, scan sytem and data,,,, it may take hours, but will fix all kinds of errors and hopefully fix ya up, then defrag and you should be good
