i'm having a hard time to explain it in a simple way. hopefully some one can help me out. not sure if what i posted makes sense to you or not.
Kemster and FLDXT, I understand what both yall are saying..3-9 would be all I need..I highly doubt seeing myself shooting over 150 yards...
Im pretty set on getting a 3x9,it should be a good all around scope for what im wanting.
Is the difference between a x40 and a x50 noticable in yalls eyes?
there realy isnt a whole lot of difference between the 30-06 and the 270, both use the same brass the 270 is .277" diameter and the 30-06 is .308"diameter. in velocity with 150 gr bullets the edge goes to the 06 by app 100 fps, and in sectional density and balistic coefficient the edge goes to the 270 in 150 gr nosler partitions sect dens for the 06 is .226 and b.c. .387, for the 270 with the same bullet and wt sec dens is .279 and b.c. is .465. bullet drop is app 0.1" less for the o6 to 300 yds both are the same at 500yds. as for energy the 06 has it out to 300 yds, then the 270 has the edge to 500 yds. the 06 does have a huge advantage in bullet wt selection. this info is from the nosler re-loading hand book, what does this mean to an animal shot, JACK SQUAT. in equal wt guns it seems to me recoil feels less with the 270, ( just my opinion ) . can't believe I wasted all this time looking this crap up, but there you go if you give a rats ass.

dang, nacho. didn't mean for all the research. i just went to hornady's website and found the same grain bullet in all 3 calibers and compared ballistics. didn't want it to sound like i know everything. i just know that all 3 calibers ballistically are very close with most of the edge going to the 30-06. just discussed this same topic, on another forum, about the .270 being a flatter shooting "western gun". and i don't really see it being any better then the 30-06 or 308 out west. there is a reason the military has kept 308 and 30-06 for sniper rifles and no longer use .270. seem to be phasing out the other 2 calibers now, for the 300 win mag and the 338 Lapua.
not to be disrespectful in anyway to anyone, after a few discussions about the .270 being an "out west gun" , i guess i'm trying to figure out why it would be labeled as such. just about every game animal out west is larger then the average white-tail with the exception of the Black-tail deer. and just as tough or determined as a white-tail. i've hunted out west. carried an SKS for black-tails, but for anything else it was the 7mm Mag that went to the woods. if need be i can post under a new topic. didn't mean to hijack this thread. sorry.
