to each his own, but with those see-thru mounts usualy the scope is so high you either need to take your face off the stock to see thru the scope or scrunch way down to see the iron sights, worst of both worlds IMO. would be better off picking one or the other or use a qwik detatch scope.
One thing I will agree with NG on.the words 30-30 and scope or 2 words that should never be put togeather
ill agree also.. i had a nice stope with nothing to put int on.. lol
nikon omega. and a nikon prostaff on the 3030
nothing carries like or feels as good/natural in the hands as an open sighted lever and IMO a scope just defeats the purpose. a scoped ultralight bolt in 308 is often shorter/lighter, and has many times the range, knockdown power, accuracy and often costs less, good example a used ruger m77 ultralight with a 1x4,1.5x5, or 2x7 scope.I know first hand as the eyes age, vision gets worse and the open sights get harder to use at greater distances, but at 50 yds and often much less(where I get 90% of my shots), even 1/2 blind I can still hit a playing card each time. eventualy I will end up with some sort of red dot or burris fastfire. for now I'm using the 12ga with tri-ball rounds a lot, with a bead site only and am good to 50 yd's easy.
I have raised mounts on my ole 30-06 Remington 7400. I haven't pulled her out for a hunting trip since I dog hunted. Every once in a while I'll take it out and shoulder it up. Its a wonder I never broke my jaw shooting that thing. The way you have to raise up to see thru it is not anywhere natural. Now I know better
I have a Simmons 3x9 50mm on my marlin 30-30 and absolutely love it. That is my favorite gun
