Yep, I ran the + to the battery terminal, and the - to a bolt on the frame of the truck. Like I said I think I know what the problem is, I'll have it working tomorrow
Got it figured out today. I knew I had a grounding issue, just couldn't figure it out. I had the CB mounted the same way before and had no issues so I knew I was missing something simple. Well, turns out when I mounted the tool box in my truck a few months back, I used self tapping screws that had a rubber gasket on them. DUH! :pinch
SO I ran a couple more screws in each side of the tool box and that seemed to fix the problem. I got a radio check from a guy 10 miles away and he said I was pegging his needle over. Thats with the echo turned off and no power mic. I still got a problem with hooking up the power mic. I tried 2 different ones with fresh batteries, and was getting a terrible feed back squeal. Not sure what that means, but I will get by with the factory mic for now. I still need to check it with the SWR meter and see where I am at
Looks good.
I plug mine into the cigarette lighter, have the whip mounted to the tool box. It works great and has for years. I prolly need to check the ohm again.
you dont bump your knees on the radio gettin in and out of the truck? I gotta get a new radio and get it tuned, take it in somewhere and let them hook up the SWR meter and see whats goin on. gonna also redo my antenna mount when i get a toolbox soon, right now its mounted on the side of the bed, dont think its grounded too good
