Wanted to get opinions on recommended hog rifles and calibers for walk and stalk hog hunting. I have a few different rifle models, actions, and calibers I use for hog walk and stalk hunting but was thinking about a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70. I have a 44 Magnum carbine but distance and velocity-knock down power can sometimes be an issue, also have a 7.62x39 carbine and to me the round seems a bit light for 150LB plus hogs. Have a friend who swears by the 450 Marlin Guide Gun, but it recoils terribly. What do you use and do you think the 45-70 is over kill for hogs in FL and GA?

Marlin 30-30 with lever-revolutions. Gives you the best of a brush gun type load, and a tack driving gun at 100 yards+.
Here are 2 I killed with that load and gun last year

My buddy's hunt with 45-70's and 444,s I use a 358. A .35 will work just as well and ammo is way cheaper and easier to buy. Everyone thinks hogs are hard to kill like elephants but they're not.ike FLDXT said whatever works for you.

Maybe I'll start looking for a old Win 94 30/30 Trapper Carbine as a project gun and it would be a better choice. The 45-70 has a nice ring to it, but recoil, ammo cost and availability, and over kill as far as stopping power are definately concerns. Thanks guys-
