one boot for 10 states and Canada is a tall order. for cold weather 20 degrees and below I'd go with a felt lined pac-boot, but they are large and heavy and not waterproof, not at all suited for FL. a lacrosse knee high rubber with bob sole and insulated is pretty all purpose, but wouldn't want to walk many miles in them. the ll bean maine guide gum soled boots are comfy light, decent traction and " water resistant to a point and can be had from below ankle to knee high, but don't wear well on streets and cement,I use a pair of the 6" high ones alot. also a pair of 10" insulated goretex rockies when it's cold and a chance of shallow water ,but are heavy, bulky and not too nimble and track a ton of dirt and mud into the truck/house. If you find one that can do it all please let me know.

a tip for keeping feet warm in real cold is carry a spare foam pad to put under your feet. I used 3, 1-for back,1-for butt,1- for feet, gotta insulate.the 3- pad system is alot more compact and light than packing alot of warm clothes and will keep you sitting comfortably longer without fidgetting. I did see some temps well below freezing last winter and at the time couldn't fit into any of my cold weather clothes, so the 3 pads were a real life saver.
