Picked up a nice 7400 this weekend and I am going to put some new optics on it. I think I'm going to go with one of them Redfield Revolution scopes. They're made by Leupold, lifetime warranty, and made in the USA. Anyways they offer two different reticles. Any advantage to owning the Accu-Range in Florida. All things considered most shots are within 100 yards. I use a Nikon Buckmasters on my other rifle with the standard reticle not the BDC. Thoughts?
Im a fan of a less busy reticle myself. Any holdover you'll ever have to do with that rifle will be easy to figure.....
I like em less complicated also, although my recent one has the bdc (bullet drop compensator "dots") markings on the fine crosshairs. sometimes I can see them sometimes not. check out a heavy duty reticle if available. the crosshairs are much thicker and faster/easier to see and pick up on a moving target, then go to a fine crosshair for the very center. they are designed for closer ranges and moving targets and are a lot easier for me to see/use at up to 100 yds or so. they are not what you would want for over 200 yd shots. I've got em on leupolds (originals) in 1x4 on my shotgun and 2x7 on my mzl and luv em. I'm thinking of putting the 2x7 heavy reticle on my 7mm08 as those fine reticles are harder to see without my glasses.
I really like a heavy duplex as in the Leupold VXIII or Zeiss Conquest. The bars are very heavy and come really close together before going fine. In low light you can pretty much center them up even though you can't see the fine crosshairs.
